Before discussing the risks and difficulties, it is worthy to have a look on the IVF procedure. In this fertilization process, the egg and sperm are combined manually outside the human body in a laboratory dish. Later, once it is formed as an embryo, it is transferred to the uterus of the woman. Rest of the period, the embryo is allowed to grow inside the uterus. Looking into detail, it can be categorized into a 9 stage procedure as follows.
Ovary Stimulation: This is the initial stage of the treatment wherein the women is injected with gonadotropin (fertility drug), around 8-14 days prior to her menstrual cycle. The gonadotropin is capable of stimulating the ovaries that helps in the development of several matured eggs.

Follicle Development: Through the frequent visit, the doctor monitors the development of follicles through analyzing the blood hormonal levels. Along with, the ovaries are also monitored through the ultrasound measurements.
Trigger Shot: This is the stage wherein the woman will be injected to support egg to become fully matured. If it is successful, the eggs can be considered as capable enough for fertilization.

Egg collection: This is the stage where eggs are collected, through a needle which will be inserted through the vaginal wall. With the support of ultrasound probe, the needle can be used to carefully remove those eggs from the follicles. Usually. More than 10 eggs will be retrieved.

Fertilization: The collected eggs and sperms from the partner are combined and incubated overnight under the supervision of an experienced embryologist. The fertilization happens these hours.

Embryo Development: Almost after 3 days of egg retrieval, the fertilized eggs transform to 6- 10 celled embryos and in the next two days, it turns to blastocysts which further will be separated as placenta and baby.

Embryo Selection: Almost after 5 days from egg retrieval, embryologist picks the most feasible embryo and injects it to the uterus. There can be multiple embryos formed during the fertilization process. So those embryos will be preserved for further IVF cycles.

Planting embryo: The experienced doctor plants the embryo to the uterus with the help of a catheter. While planting the embryos, the doctor considers the age and other complexities, and based upon that one to five embryos are implanted.
Final Stage: If all the previous stages are fine, then the embryo starts growing inside uterine and develops as a baby.

Risks with IVF:
Time and Expense: Though there are some cheap infertility treatment available, IVF is costly compared to other treatments available.

Ectopic Pregnancy: If the embryo starts developing inside the fallopian tube instead of womb, then, that can lead to a miscarriage.

Multiple Births: There are higher chances of having twins or triplets or more than that with IVF.

OHSS: Ovarian Hyper- Stimulation Syndrome is caused due to the overreaction to the drugs used for the fertility treatment. It can end up in a stomach cramp, nausea or vomiting.
